Shez Got Baggage
September 30, 2009 - Linda Grasso
Rebagz Eco-Chic Handbags are forward thinking and fashion forward, transforming everyday items headed for the trash
heap into pretty handbags, wallets and totes. The bag line, made from recycled juice packs and
nylon rice sacks, kicked off in July 2007. Already, it’s sold in more than 400
stores including celebrity hotspot Fred Segal in Los Angeles.
Marty Stevens-Heebner, the creator of Rebagz, got the idea for the line during a trip to the Philippines. While searching for materials and a manufacturer for her handbag designs, she found a women’s cooperative that recycles vivid plastic juice packs and weaves them into all sorts of colorful things. Marty also discovered that some Philippine rice sacks had vibrant designs on them. “I don’t care if they’re sacks,” she says. “Something that beautiful should not wind up in a dumpster. It deserves to be rescued and made into something gorgeous.” Marty decided that the recycled juice pack weave and the rice sacks would be the perfect “fabric” for her handbags. Color and variety have always been a hallmark of her work, and she has often been inspired by things she discovers in her global travels.
SheSez loves these bags because they are incredibly well made and durable. Oh, and did we forget that they look uber cool? The colorful designs are real head turners. You won't believe how many compliments you'll get. Unique, beautiful and sustainable. You can't beat it.
Large Multi-Colored Tie Tote $95

Aren't they beautiful? I've had my eye on some of the smaller pouches and wallets for a few days now. Love Marti's style and her eye for something beautiful that shouldn't be lost.
The Magnolia is stunning! Kudos on a good feature.
