An Ayurvedic Healer's 3 Secrets to Healthy Living
October 27, 2009 - Linda Grasso
As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog – I went to a lecture by an Ayurvedic Healer. Before I get into Part II – a correction on Part I. In the section on AGING, in India they believe man’s life span is 120 – not 60 as originally stated.
During his “workshop” Janesh Vaidya shared his 3 Secrets of Healthy Living. They can be separated into 3 categories: Food, Lifestyle, and Thoughts.
FOOD
Two of Janesh's comments stuck in my mind: “Food is our medicine” and "Pharmacology starts in the kitchen.” When you are shopping, think about what's good for you and stick to the origin of the food you are selecting. Stay away from processing and additives. Things like coffee and sweets take time off your life. When you eat, eat slowly. Enjoy each bite as if it were going to be your last. Also, drink water with each meal.
LIFESTYLE
Your day should be separated into three blocks of 8 hours. The first block is work. You should only work for 8 hours. Anything more and you are wasting your time and missing out on life. Find out what you are best at doing – what you love – and it won’t feel like work. Find your hidden qualities. If it’s challenging, think back to when you were a teenager. What did you dream about doing? It’s still possible now.
The second 8-hour block is for your personal life – family, friends, partners etc. You should have a relationship with nature too. Talk to the people you love and develop these relationships. This is the most precious thing in life. If you aren’t spending at least 8 hours on relationships each day, you are missing life.
The third 8 hours should be spent sleeping. Sleep is the best therapy you can get. We look so many other places for cures, but we simply need sleep.
THOUGHTS
The mind is driver. The body is just the vehicle. Balance your mind and work on filtering your negativity. Bring positivity to each and every person you encounter each day.
After the lecture I asked Janesh how to hold on to what he was saying. During his talk I nodded my head repeatedly i.e. I believe his message. But living it on a day-to-day basis and not getting mired down by the all the mundane, unimportant stuff is a challenge. He advised me to try and think about what’s important in life each day. He compared it to a rubber band. You pull it and you pull it and with each pull it gets more elastic and loose and does not spring back as quickly. Eventually, it will not spring back at all. So, I will keep pulling. I hope you do too.
Janesh is staying in Laguna Beach
until mid-November when he returns to Sweden. He is available for one-on-one sessions in Laguna. They are 2-hour sessions – combining a
consultation and Ayurvedic massage. For more information, you can check out
his website at www.yogam.se or shoot me an
email and I’ll pass on his.

Your article is very nice. I like it to get healthy living. Although it's not easy for who is 60 years old. Thank for your posting.

Oh it's never too late. My 94 year old grandmother has always said that life begins at forty. She took up golf and an aerobics at 60! Now that we are living until the age of 100, I believe life starts at 40!
