Golden Globes Red Carpet: Linleigh's Favorites and a Few Faux Pas

January 18, 2010 - Linleigh Richker

I especially love to watch the Golden Globes each year starting at 4 o'clock with the red carpet bit all the way to the bitter end. Drinking a glass of nero d'Avola and eating a red velvet moon pie while watching celebrities don beautiful gowns, I'm in golden globe nirvana. So what did I like? Who did I think wore it well? Let's start with Emily Blunt who chose a pale pink frothy gown by Dolce Gabbana. She was lovely. Her makeup was soft and she accessorized perfectly by just paying homage to her wrists.

Secondly, I loved Olivia Wilde's ensemble. She was sexy in her fully sequined jet and silver Gucci dress with the asymmetrical drape and just the appropriate cleavage for that neckline. Mariah Carey, take note.

Below is Mariah poured into that sausage casing and oozing out the top.

Next is Maggie Gyllenhaal in her pale pink geometrically pieced gown, RM by Roland Mouret. Mermaid bottoms are tricky to get right, but this designer pinned the tail.

A classic nod to Cameron Diaz. She was radiant in her lipstick red satin cap sleeved AlexanderMcQueen dress. Great choice to go bare on the ears and the neck. The only matching accessory were the lips.

And finally, what does Halle Berry not look good in? Yeesh! She was ravishing in this onyx silk bias cut Kaufman Franco gown with lace inserts.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think that the short dresses pack the same punch as the long ones do. Julia, save those for the award shows that are not televised.

                        Chloe Sevigny

And lastly, make sure the dress doesn't wear you, Chloe Sevigny. Or you may see it take on a life of it's own; in this case, under the shoe of the presenter. Ouch!

Please let me know which were your favorites.

Mariah Carey looks like she ate her stylist for dinner! What is wrong with that woman?

I agree with all of your picks except Cameron D. She looks too harsh in all that red - esp. her lips. She'd be more beautiful with a softer look.

The thing I didn't like about Julia Robert's dress wasnt' that it was short. It did not fit her! It was completely rumpled thru the body. We watched her walk down the red carpet and gasped. It was so unflattering.

Ruth Ann,
You have a point. On second thought, the lips needed to be taken down a notch. Thanks for your opinion.

Breathtaking snaps! All are giving the impression of bona fide dons of Red Carpet.
