Charlize Theron's Upswept Oscar Hair: Her Stylist Shows Us How
March 10, 2010 - Linda Grasso
You might have noticed how popular upswept hair-do’s were on
this year’s Oscar red carpet. One
of the prettiest hairstyles indisputably belonged to actress Charlize Theron.
Hollywood celebrity stylist Enzo Angileri, Charlize's longtime hairdresser, created that lovely chignon for the South African native for the Oscars. “It’s a classic chignon with a bit loose and hanging down in the front. With beautiful long gowns like you see at the Oscars, that style is very flattering. What I did with Charlize is basically a four-step process. It is certainly easier if you have someone doing it for you – but it is possible to do on yourself.” Check on the blow-by-blow video below on how to create this ultra feminine look.
Four Steps to Create Chignon1. First, you prepare the hair so it’s smooth and shiny. For most women, that means blow-drying it. This is important because you don’t want frizz or anything that takes away from the elegance of the look.
2. Next you brush the hair back into a low ponytail and secure it with a holder. If your hair is especially long, use a curling iron to curl the ends. It makes putting up that last piece and pinning it into place much easier because the hair will basically curl up and around and in the proper place.
3. Then, twist the hair, and bring it up and around in a circle.
4. Last, tuck the ends in and pin with bobby pins. Then secure the chignon with bobby pins. Try and get pins that are mat finish –
not shiny – and one that match your hair color. It's easier to hide them that way”
