Great Spring Summer Shift
March 15, 2010 - Linda Grasso
So finally come up for air from the weekend with more on Lauren Pierce Atelier - the dress line by former model Lauren Bush, who by the way is a cousin of the latest Bush president. The dresses are made with these fabulous hand-dyed prints - made by women of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are one of a kind as the bolt changes on each fabric. So here is how it works, you go to Barneys, where the dresses are sold, and you pick one of five styles. Prices for all five silhouettes are around $500. Then you go over to the fabrics and choose one. The dress is then made to order.
Lauren, who is in her twenties, told me she enjoys designing with a mission. "I'm not inspired by the latest drape or color. These fabrics are the practiced traditional crafts of the region and the women are recovering from the ravages of war. Making these fabrics helps them until they are able to find a place to live and move on."
Personally I loved the style with the scoop neck with just a bit of rushing that I'm wearing in the previous post. I'd wear this dress ($585) with flip flops in the summer or with heels at night. For the second floor of the Bev. Hills Barneys, the dress is low priced - but it's still a hunk of cash. But this dress to me is a "go-to" piece - and that being said - I think the price is fair.

Check out the cute headband Lauren is wearing on the left. She picked it up at Diane Von Furstenberg in NYC. Apparently one of the models had worn it in a fashion show and Lauren asked if she could buy it and they agreed. The gal has style - doesn't she?
