Brushing up on Skin Care

Have you ever wondered what the largest organ of your body is? Here's a hint: the organ is one of the most important for elimination of toxic wastes from your system. This organ is the SKIN!  So the relevance and importance of the skin goes beyond the things we women are always concerned about like pore size and wrinkles - keeping the skin healthy is key to keeping us healthy. Below are some tips for keeping the skin in tip top shape.

SKIN NUTRITION

Skin problems are becoming ubiquitous. These problems always seem to flare up when you’re eating poorly (fast food, processed food, sugar, soda, etc.), not getting enough sleep or plenty of exercise in fresh air. The skin clears up when more dark leafy greens are added to your diet, which help cleanse and purify the skin. Increasing your intake of Vitamin C with citrus fruits, bell peppers, broccoli and cauliflower, will help to tighten the connective tissue of the skin. Additionally, the wonderful oils like raw nut butters, olive, flaxseed, and coconut, will keep the skin moist and pliable. Another important tip: avoid using soaps, cosmetics or lotions that are full of chemicals.

SKIN BRUSHING

The finest and easiest way to detoxify the skin and promote good circulation is SKIN BRUSHING! You should brush your skin with a brush made from natural vegetable fibers before you take a bath or shower everyday. Brushing the skin when it’s dry removes dead skin and toxins. It allows the pores to stay open, so metabolic wastes can be released.

HOW TO USE A SKIN BRUSH

Begin each day by brushing the bottoms of the feet. Brush them up and down and side-to-side a couple of times. It not only releases toxins, but also stimulates all of the acupuncture meridians that go to all parts of the body. You will be helping every organ of your body! Then brush the tops of your feet up to the heart. You are helping stimulate the lymphatic system by brushing upwards. Brush the buttocks in a circular motion and don’t forget a few extra strokes where there is cellulite. Brush the upper chest with downward strokes toward the heart. Brush the arms toward the heart. Use a smaller softer brush on the face. Brush from the throat up toward the face, and then brush the skin of the face from the jaw up. This upward motion helps to prevent some wrinkles and can be like a natural face-lift.

BENEFITS OF SKIN BRUSHING

You won’t believe the benefits you will get from skin brushing everyday!

  • Releases uric acid crystals that can cause gout or kidney stones
  • Stimulates all the acupuncture points and promotes energy flow to organs and glands
  • Improves blood circulation to the skin and all parts of the body
  • Enhances flow of oxygen to the lungs
  • Helps improve digestion and bowel elimination
  • Cleanses the lymph system  (responsible for removing waste fluids from the body) and improves immunity
  • Promotes the production of natural oils form the oil glands
  • Helps prevent some wrinkles by tightening the skin
  • Helps to break down some cellulite after 30 days of consistent brushing (3-5 minutes)

For greater overall health – take care of your skin! After one month, you will notice a remarkable difference in your overall health and appearance. Happy brushing!
