A Venice Spiritual Jeweler Converts A Skeptic

February 16, 2011 - Julia Austin

  Veronica Ladjili                                                                           Jeweler Veronica Ladjili

I’ve always been a believer in aspirin for a headache and a good vent session after a breakup. So, I really had to try to have an open mind when interviewing Veronica Ladjili, founder of Ladjili Jewelry—pieces made from gemstones with healing properties.

However, I quickly found  being open minded rather easy. It wasn't because golden rays of light burst from a stone the moment I put it on - but rather because of Veronica herself. There's something about knowing that this ultra-sweet and perceptive individual who hugged me upon arrival and offered me tea,  actually handmade the necklace that will fall over my heart.

How to Get What You Want on & Other On-line Designer Sale Sites

January 24, 2011 - Linda Grasso

I skipped Neiman's First Call this year - and all the other good sales - for that matter. Instead, I decided I was going to cozy up with a good cup of joe and do my end of season sale shopping on-line. I specifically pinpointed the downtime-filled week between Christmas and New Year's and marked my calendar to be seated in front of the computer promptly at 9am - the kick off time for I was giddy with optimism at the bevy of deals I intended to get.  However, each time I hit "buy," I ended up frustrated and ultimately empty handed.  Despite my early start time, every item I wanted was already sold out. It happened exactly 5 times during the week (M-F) and each time I hit "buy" no later than 9:05.  What was I doing wrong I wondered?

3 New Year's Resolutions You Might Actually Keep

January 06, 2011 - Julia Austin

I love New Year's Eve. It’s an excuse to wear sequin without looking like a flapper girl (or worse!). Then, there's the emotion. I always get a little teary-eyed watching the ball drop.  Finally, as a single gal, at midnight I can shamelessly grab the guy I’ve been eyeing all evening and lay a wet one on him.

However, although, I’m all for time-tested traditions, I do have an issue with the holiday. There’s this mad rush to come up with some extraordinary, completely new way to improve your life. The reality is, if you hadn’t just naturally thought of making the change before, it’s probably not something you’re going to stick to.

Get Inspired by Top LA Fashionistas to Go Glam! Great Holiday & New Year's Outfits

December 18, 2010 - Linda Grasso

IMG_0682 I recently went to a party a the Four Seasons Beverly Hills and it got my juices flowing about uber chic evening wear. The party was sponsored by the shop Intermix - and guests included a smathering of LA's most hip fashionistas.

If you go into your closet and are overwhelmed by that all too familiar frustrating feeling - I've got nothing to wear - think of these gals and get inspired!  You probably have some of this stuff already in your closet - you just need a reminder to bring it out.  Or maybe you have to run and get one item to pull it all together.  Easy enough - right?

Lotus Flower Necklace in Rose

Lotus Flower Necklace, $220 - click here to buy at SheSez store

Rose-hued metallics always catch my eye.  There's just a certain unique quality about it and it feels distinctly feminine.  This pretty necklace is by jeweler Julia Failey, and it includes Cindy Crawford as a fan.  It comes in 3 styles.  The first version - seen above - features lotus flower medallions that are 3/4" in diameter.  The piece is made of brushed, reclaimed Sterling Silver with a 34" flat link chain and a lobster clasp. It is rose gold plated.

Wanna Color Your Own Hair - But Afraid You'll Mess Up? Check Out Esalon!

October 27, 2010 - Linda Grasso

Content_btl_v2._ts1277251464 Are you sick of paying $60 to have your roots done?  You must have at least considered it as the colorist chatted away giving a blow-by-blow of her latest boyfriend spat as she painted your scalp.  Or, maybe you're like me and it's the time factor that really sticks in your craw - .i.e. why am I taking up an entire afternoon when I could probably do this faster at home?  However agitating it may be, most of us dismiss these thoughts before the $5 valet charge has left our wallet. The fact is most of us are afraid to charter into this unknown territory: leaving the beauty of our beloved locks to a drug store box of Loreal?  We've still got our hair going for us - right? Why risk screwing it up?

However, now there's a reason to give do-it-yourself hair coloring a try.  Esalon is a company that, for the first time, is bridging the gap between going to a salon and resorting to the cheaper color-in-a-box route.  The new LA-based company makes custom formulated hair color.  Customers go on-line and answer a rather detailed questionnaire, covering everything from how often they color, to whether they have low or high lights, straight or curly hair and to their percentage of gray.  There are also pictures for you to refer to - i.e. are you more this shade of brunette or that shade? A colorist (many of the esalon colorists by the way are from top chi chi salons like Frederic Fekkai) at the lab where the color is mixed then goes over your answers and custom blends your ammonia-free color.

Taupe Pearl Cuff Bracelet

Pearls are making a big comeback this season. While they were once viewed as ladylike and dainty, the latest incarnations include hip, chunky designs and a smashing array of colors.  I saw tons of pearls on the runways in Paris last week during fashion week with just a hint of soft yellow, mint and rose.  I also saw lots of taupe - which inspired me to pick up this chic cuff bracelet to sell at the SheSez store.  It's made with genuine freshwater cultured pearls.

Bored with Your Closet? Get Inspired by the Women of Paris

October 14, 2010 - Linda Grasso

IMG_9953 Fresh off the heels of my Paris Fashion Week trip, I'm still reeling from all the incredibly well-dressed women I saw - off the runways.  The women in Paris really have it down. They're elegant, progressive and bold - not to mention well heeled.  I've never seen so many beautiful shoes in my life - and how they walk in high heels on those pothole-filled, cobblestone streets?  It was truly amazing. I tend to save my best shoes for events where they won't get ruined. In Paris?  Not so!  Shoes - as well as clothes - are for wearing

If you're like me, no matter how many great pieces you have in your closet, you often run out of fresh ideas. So, I'm sharing some of the cool outfits I saw with the hopes that you will get inspired, and have some fun! Layer on the gold necklaces, be brave and bust out the leather, and wear your Louboutins with rolled up jeans. It's only fashion.
